Facility Inspections
We want to point out that this nursing home really outperformed its overall grade in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that area with an A. Arguably the most significant factor we consider in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Facilities with higher grades in this category typically dodged the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This place was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered severe. This means that the government inspectors did not deem any of these deficiencies to create an imminent threat to patient safety or health. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility also received a favorable score in our long-term care category. We awarded this facility an above average grade of B+ in that category. In a long-term care setting, the facility's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. Once we concluded our assessment of the volume of nursing care, we turned to the facility's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 55.20745 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we like to see, we were pleased to find nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home's third best category is short-term care. We awarded it a B- in this category. This is essentially a middle of the road grade in this area. Short-term care grades are vital for individuals seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally requires higher levels of skilled nursing services. This includes a broad spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final metric we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents who returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 5.2 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. Unfortunately, this was below average.
Nurse Quality
The next area we scored was nursing, ended up being this facility's worst area. We gave this nursing home a grade of D in this area. This was one of the few weak links in a very solid report card. In determining a facility's nursing grade, we weigh the quantity of hours nurses spend with patients as well as the level of licensure of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. In addition to receiving below average scores for total nursing hours, this nursing home was less impressive in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at in calculating our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of residents sustaining pressure ulcers and found that this place was at approximately 1.5 times the national average in this metric. This is likely a bad sign when you consider that so many pressure ulcers are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, this statistic really pulled down this nursing home's nursing grade significantly.
