Registered Staff Hours
Although we did not rate this nursing home favorably overall, we want to point out its relatively solid inspections in recent years. We gave it a respectable grade of B in this area, which is much better than its overall grade. Our inspection ratings are tied to several pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important item to look for on these inspections. You should especially avoid nursing homes that have severe deficiencies associated with risks to resident well being. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
The second most favorable area we gave this nursing home in any area came in the area of short-term care, where we awarded it a B-. Our short-term care grades are critical for prospective residents seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually requires higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes a broad range of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Unfortunately, this place was below average in terms of its level of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its patients based on the metrics we assessed. Finally, we looked at the number of residents that ultimately returned home from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was actually quite a bit below the national average.
Does this page answer your questions about Clinton Therapy & Living Center?
This nursing home actually received a decent grade in the area of nursing as well. We awarded it a grade of B- for that category, which is not a bad score. Nursing ratings are based in large part on levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is a low total compared with most other nursing homes. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility surprisingly excelled in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. In fact, it performed well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care. In some cases, the quality of nursing care is just as important as the quantity of hours of care offered.
Long-term Care Quality
The next category we assessed is long-term care, which turned out to be this facility's worst area. We awarded this facility a grade of D in this area. For long-term care residents, the facility's primary goal is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Fortunately, this facility provided the vaccine to 94.8052 percent of its patients, which is an above average percentage. Surprisingly, this facility also keeps its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
