Facility Inspections
While this facility's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it actually excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we gave it an A- for that category, which is one of our highest scores. Inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This place was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered severe. This indicates that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to cause an immediate risk to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing rating. In fact, nursing proved to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this facility an D. Our nursing score looks at the facility's nurse staffing levels. We look at both the levels of skill of the nurses as well as the number of hours spent with residents. With a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis, this nursing home's nurse staffing levels were significantly below the national average. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing scores. This nursing home fared well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.

Long-term Care Quality
Our next category we looked at was long-term care, where this nursing home was given an F. When facilities receive a score in this range in long-term care it generally means the nursing home didn't perform well in our quality measures relating to resident care. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 55.851067 percent of its patients. This is many points lower than the national average. To our surprise, this nursing home was actually decent at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This was its best score in this category.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we rated was short-term care, where this nursing home was given a very poor score in this area also. We gave it an abysmal F for this area, which is obviously very concerning. In crafting these short-term care ratings, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our goal is to formulate a scale for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Based on its grade in this area, we weren't stunned to discover that this place is well below average in terms of its quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its patients based on the metrics we assessed. Frankly, this was about what we expected to find. Lastly, we considered the number of residents that ultimately returned home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.6 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.
