Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

On top of being a first rate nursing home overall, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it earned a grade of A+. Few nursing homes fared this well in this area. Inspection grades are based on several items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that score well in this area typically have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

We also would like to point out the fact that this nursing home was given a dominant score of A in our long-term care area. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. After looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is much higher than the average nursing home. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

This nursing home also received a very impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A. Our nursing score includes many factors. The most heavily weighted factor is the amount of time nurses spend with patients. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as having a protocol of turning a resident at least once a day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The next area we scored proved to be this nursing home's weakest area. Nevertheless, even its lowest point would actually be a strength for most nursing homes. We awarded it a favorable grade of B in our short-term care category. Our short-term care grades are based on a nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a vast range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, not to mention other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents that were able to return home from this facility. We found that 4.5 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
