Facility Inspections
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. Inspection grades are tied to several items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that score well in this area have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This facility received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This means that CMS did not consider any of these deficiencies to create an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Among the reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it was awarded a very impressive long-term care grade. In fact, long-term care turned out to be its second most impressive category grade. In that area, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A-. Nursing homes that receive this kind of grade in long-term care typically provide consistent 24/7 care to ensure residents are kept in good health. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 99.26199 percent of its patients, which is much higher than the average nursing home. Lastly, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. We found that this nursing home had 3.08 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. While this wasn't as impressive as most of its other scores in this category, this statistic may be skewed for some nursing homes based on some of the preexisting medical conditions of residents.
Nurse Quality
Turning to the category of nursing care, this facility didn't perform quite as well in this area as some of the categories discussed above. Nevertheless, a grade of B- in this category is by no means a bad score. Our nursing score focuses on the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We weigh both the levels of training of the nurses and the quantity of hours spent with residents. This nursing home averages just 3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Finally, we look at quality-based metrics, such as the percentage of patients who sustained pressure ulcers and major falls. These metrics are decent measures of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The final area we assessed was short-term care, proved to be this facility's least impressive category. We awarded this facility a grade of D in this area. This really was one of the few weak links in an otherwise impressive profile. Our short-term care grades are critical for prospective residents needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. This includes a broad scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. It looks like this place was subpar in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its residents based on the measures we assessed. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who returned home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 36.6 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
