Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

On top of earning a strong overall score, this facility fared well in our short-term care category. In fact, we awarded it an impressive grade of A for that category, which is one of our best scores. Short-term care grades are vital for people looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally requires more skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes a vast scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final measure we looked at in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We found that 6 percent of this nursing home's residents were able to return home.

Facility Inspections

We also want to emphasize this nursing home's nearly flawless government inspections in recent years. We gave them an impressive grade of A- in this area. Our inspection scores are tied to several datapoints located in the a nursing home's government inspections. Facilities that receive favorable grades in this category have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Fortunately, although this nursing home had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in the industry.

Nurse Quality

This facility is also strong in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of B. It outperformed most nursing homes in this category. We looked at the qualifications of nurses employed by the nursing home, as well as the quantity of hours those nurses were with patients, in computing our grade in this category. This particular nursing home provided 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can generally be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality

The final area we looked at was long-term care. We gave it a grade of C in that category. This is a perfectly acceptable grade in this category. Our long-term care grades are meaningful for individuals in need of personal care. On top of considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients, which is more than most nursing homes. Finally, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
