Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

Although we did not rate this nursing home well overall, we want to note its decent government inspections in recent years. We gave it a somewhat respectable grade of B- in that category. We believe that one of the most critical factors in assessing an inspection report is deficiencies. In this regard, we especially look at the severity of the deficiencies. This particular nursing home received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report. We are also concerned by the fact that this facility was flagged by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We prefer to avoid facilities with this designation. Please do your best to find an alternative nursing home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

One of the other reasons we rated this nursing home so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing grade. This proved to be its second best category grade. In that area, we gave this nursing home an B-. Our nursing rating is based on several datapoints, but the main one is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home provides 0.2 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. It performed well in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these areas to be indicators of the quality of nursing care. In many cases, the quality of nursing care is every bit as important as the quantity of hours of care provided.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The third category we graded was short-term care, where this nursing home was given a C in this area. Our short-term care ratings are based in part on the facility's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a vast spectrum of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, in addition to other forms of therapy. In this facility's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than the typical facility. The hope is always that this does not adversely affect the quality of care. The last statistic we considered in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We discovered that just 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is actually below average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The next area we assessed is long-term care. We gave this nursing home a grade of C in that category. Long-term care ratings are based in part on a nursing home's volume of nursing care. This means a vast scope of personal care services, ranging from assistance with activities of daily living to routine medical services. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 79.48718 percent of its residents. This is quite a bit less than what we were hoping for. Fortunately, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
