Facility Inspections

Grade: A

This facility earned a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to emphasize its nearly flawless government inspection reports in recent years. We awarded them an A in this category. Our inspection ratings are tied to items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that excel in this area tend to have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This place was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This means that CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies to pose an imminent risk to resident health or safety. We should note that deficiency-free inspections are rare in the industry.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Another one of this nursing home's better category grades was in the category of long-term care. In that area, we gave this nursing home a grade of B. Long-term care ratings of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is much higher than the majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

This facility's next best category ended up being short-term care. In that category, we awarded this nursing home a C. Short-term care ratings are based in part on a facility's quantity of skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a wide range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, in addition to other forms of therapy. We weren't able to find information on registered nurse or physical therapy staffing for this nursing home. The last datapoint we considered in this category is the percentage of residents who who were able to eventually return home from the facility. We found that just 5 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

The last category we looked at is nursing. For that category, we awarded this facility a grade of C. There are a variety of data points included in this grade. Most of these data points relate to levels of nurse staffing. This place provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is a lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we look at quality-based metrics, such as the percent of patients who suffered pressure ulcers and major falls. Sometimes these metrics are measures of the quality of nursing care.
