While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable nursing grade this year. We gave it a grade of C in that category. We looked at the levels of nurses at the nursing home, in addition to the quantity of hours those nurses were with patients, in determining our grade in this area. This place provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is a much lower figure than we were hoping for. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place excelled in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. It performed well in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.

We were also pleasantly surprised to find that this facility received a reasonably solid short-term care grade in our assessment. We gave it a C in this category. Our short-term care grades are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a broad spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, in addition to other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, this nursing home was below average in terms of its quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its patients based on the metrics we assessed. The important question is whether this adversely impacted quality of care. Lastly, we assessed the number of residents who who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was actually quite a bit below average.

We also wanted to draw your attention to this nursing home's inspection grades where it received an F. This generally means we found some red flags on the inspection reports. When a facility has this poor of an inspection rating, you should expect some severe deficiencies on its inspection report. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to patient safety. This facility had 3 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only positive thing we found is that none of these deficiencies were in the categories that suggest they created a risk to patient health or safety. Lastly, we also would like to draw your attention to the fact that this facility was assessed significant government fines recently of over $50,000. This usually suggests that government inspectors became fed up after multiple years of bad inspections.

The last category we assessed was long-term care. This facility was given an abysmal grade of F in this category. For long-term care residents, the facility's primary objective is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. After considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is higher than the average nursing home. To our surprise, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home has fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
