Although we gave this facility an abysmal overall score, we awarded it a C for long-term care. For prospective residents seeking a permanent place to live as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care grades are a key measure. After looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 93.05556 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is slightly below what we expected but still a respectable percentage. Finally, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. We found that this facility had 2.3 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Although this figure is somewhat concerning, this number may be skewed for some nursing homes due to the medical complexity of patients.

This facility really didn't perform terribly in the area of inspections. We gave it a grade of C for that category. Other aspects of its profile were the source of its abysmal overall score. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection scores. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some end up being quite minor. This facility had 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to find that none were in any of the categories labeled G through L. This indicates it dodged the more significant categories of deficiencies. Finally, this facility was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We would not recommend this facility under any circumstance.

Historical

We awarded this nursing home just a D for our short-term care rating. This is not one of our better scores. Our short-term care grades are crucial for prospective residents needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually utilizes higher levels of skilled nursing services. This means a broad scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return home from this facility. We found that it performed better in this area, with 51.1 percent of its patients returning home.

Historical

Turning to our last category, this facility didn't perform very well in this area either. With a bottom of the barrel grade of F in nursing, this is just about as terrible as it gets. The nursing grade consists of several subcategories, but the paramount one is the quantity of nurse hours per patient per week. This place averaged a meager 3.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. To go along with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this place also didn't perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of patients experiencing major falls and pressure ulcers. This place had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average nursing home. This could be a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores and falls are preventable with better nursing care. These statistics hurt this facility's nursing grade significantly.
