Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

The main reason this turned out to be a decent nursing home is that it received an elite inspection score. In fact, its inspection score was far superior to its overall grade. In the inspections category, we gave it an A-. Inspection ratings are tied to many pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that score well in this area typically have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Fortunately, although this place had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in this industry.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

We also wanted to note that this nursing home received an B in the area of nursing. Our nursing grade focuses on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We look at both the levels of training of the nurses as well as the quantity of hours spent with residents. This particular nursing home provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The third category we assessed was long-term care. In that area, we awarded this nursing home a solid grade of B-. Long-term care ratings are vital for people in need of personal care. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 96.27329 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is higher than the average nursing home. This place also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

Our last category is short-term care, where we awarded this nursing home a C in that area. Short-term care grades are commonly employed to measure a facility's rehabilitation services. In order to provide highly scored rehabilitation services, facilities generally must provide better levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly skilled individuals. It doesn't look like this nursing home provided information about its staffing of registered nurses or physical therapists. The last measure we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents that ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that just 0 percent of this facility's residents returned home. Unfortunately, this was below average.
