Short-term Care Quality
We also found that this nursing home excelled at short-term care. We gave them an A+ in this area. In our short-term care score, we seek to create a sound measure for rehabilitation. In doing so, we analyze the facility's level of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. One of this nursing home's strengths is registered nurse hours. We found that it offers more care from registered nurses to its residents than most facilities. The final datapoint we considered in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. This place fared as well as just about any nursing home in Texas in this area with 74.8 percent of its patients returning home. For most nursing homes, fewer than half of their short-term residents ever return home.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home also received an A+ for its nursing grade. Our nursing rating is mostly tied to the facility's nurse staffing. This facility boasts a really impressive 7.7 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis, of which a significant portion of those hours were provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly highly trained levels of nurses. In addition to providing impressive levels of care, this nursing home also excelled in the quality-based metrics we assessed. For example, it performed as well as any facility in the nation in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these areas as good measures of the caliber of nursing care provided.
Facility Inspections
Continuing with its amazing performance, this nursing home also received an A+ inspection score. This grade is based on the facility's recent inspection reports. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection ratings. One key factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being relatively minor. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
In the final category, this facility was given another A+ for its long-term care rating, topping off a truly spectacular profile of straight A+'s in all of our categories. For long-term care residents, the primary objective is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination record. It does not appear that this nursing home submitted information about vaccinations. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
