Facility Inspections
With an overall grade this high, it should come as no surprise that this nursing home excelled in the area of inspections, where it earned an A. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection ratings. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite minor. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G through L. This tells you that the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.
Short-term Care Quality
We also want to draw your attention to the fact that this facility was awarded a first-rate grade of A in our short-term care area. Our short-term care ratings are vital for patients needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates more highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means a vast scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. This nursing home provides more services with physical therapists and registered nurses than most nursing homes we looked at. This is usually a favorable sign. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who who were able to eventually return home from this facility. On top of excelling in the area of physical therapy, we found that it performed as well as just about any facility in the country in this area with 66.9 percent of its patients returning home.
Nurse Quality
This facility also excelled in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Nursing ratings are based largely on levels of nurse staffing. This place provided 3.9 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is an impressive metric which typically corresponds with quality care. Finally, this facility was also above average in each of the major quality-based metrics we looked at in this category. It performed well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
Long-term Care Quality
The last area we assessed was long-term care, which ended up being a weak link for this nursing home. We awarded this facility a grade of D in our long-term care category, rendering this the facility's least impressive category. We'd still recommend that you consider all of a nursing home's grades. Our long-term care grade focuses on a facility's assistance with daily living rather than the skilled nursing and healthcare services that are critical to a rehabilitation facility. This nursing home's vaccination records weren't as impressive as its nursing hours. This nursing home gave the pneumonia vaccine to just 86.23188 percent of its residents. We'd love to see some improvement in this area next year. Lastly, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. With 1.81 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this place did not fare as well as the average nursing home.
