Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Although we did not rate this facility favorably overall, we want to draw your attention to its high marks in long-term care. We gave them an A- in this category, which was a shining light in an otherwise weak profile. Facilities that receive this kind of score in long-term care tend to provide consistent around the clock care to make sure patients are kept in good health. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 85.36585 percent of its patients, which is a bit below what we expected. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Turning to the area of nursing care, this facility received a grade of just D in this category. Unfortunately, this ended up being one of its better grades. Nursing scores are primarily tied to the facility's nurse staffing. This place offered just 0.6 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is an alarmingly low total. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing scores. This place performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

This nursing home's second lowest score was short-term care, where it earned a grade of just D in that area. This is a well below average score. In computing our short-term care grades, we assess a facility's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. This area is considered to be a fair measure of the nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. Given its score in this area, we weren't stunned to discover that this place is well below average in terms of its quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its residents based on the metrics we looked at. Honestly, this was what we expected to find. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients who who were able to eventually return home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 3 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.

Facility Inspections

Grade: F

Moving on our final category of inspections, this facility received a grade that's as bad as it gets. We would advise paying close attention to any deficiencies on a nursing home's inspection reports when it receives this poor of an inspection rating. We recommend you pay close attention to the severity of those deficiencies. This particular nursing home was assessed 2 deficiencies by government inspectors. The only favorable thing we found is that none of its deficiencies were in the categories that suggest that they created a threat to resident safety or health. Lastly, we also want to point out that this facility received large government fines recently of over $100,000. This often signifies that a nursing home's bad performance has been an issue for more than one year.
