Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

While we weren't complementary of this facility's overall score, it actually received an impressive long-term care rating this year. We gave it a grade of B in this area. For patients seeking a permanent place to live rather than skilled nursing, long-term care grades are a key measure. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 83.50515 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which happens to be a few points lower than we anticipated but still a respectable percentage. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Another one of this facility's higher category grades was in the area of short-term care. In that area, we awarded this nursing home a grade of B. It actually performed better than most nursing homes in this area. In the area of short-term care, we attempt to assess indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final measure we assessed in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

This nursing home actually received a decent grade in the area of nursing as well. We awarded it a grade of C for that category, which is not a bad score. The nursing category is based on quite a few factors, most of which are tied to nursing hours. This nursing home averages just 0.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Finally, although this place got dinged a bit for its nursing hours, it excelled in some of our quality-based metrics. With less than five percent of its patients experiencing pressure ulcers, it fared well in this metric.

Facility Inspections

Grade: F

Turning our final area of inspections, this nursing home received an F here. When a facility has this poor of an inspection grade, you should expect some severe deficiencies on its inspection report. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to resident safety. This particular facility had 2 deficiencies by CMS. The only favorable thing we found is that none of these deficiencies were in the categories that indicate they posed a threat to resident health or safety. Lastly, we also would like to point out that this nursing home received significant government fines in recent years totaling more than $100,000. This usually means that a facility's bad performance spanned several years.
