Facility Inspections
On top of performing well in its overall grade, this facility performed at an even higher level in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A+. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection ratings. One critical factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these end up being relatively insignificant. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Contributing to this nursing home's list of strengths, it also was given a top-shelf long-term care score. We gave them an impressive strong of A in this area. Facilities that do well in long-term care typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. On top of patient-friendly nursing hour statistics, this facility's vaccination data is as good as it gets also. In fact, it vaccinated 99.66777 percent of its residents against pneumonia. The last statistic we assessed was the facility's hospitalization rate. Here we found that this facility had 2.45 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days.
Short-term Care Quality
The third most favorable category we gave this facility in any category came in the area of short-term care, where we awarded it a grade of C. Our short-term care grade is typically employed to gauge a nursing home's rehabilitation services To offer highly scored rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must feature better levels of skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly skilled individuals. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. The final statistic we considered in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. It was respectable in this area with 46.2 percent of its patients returning home.
Nurse Quality
The last area we looked at was nursing. We gave this nursing home a grade of D for the area of nursing, making this the facility's weakest category grade. Our nursing score assesses quite a few factors, but the main one is the quantity of nurse hours spent with patients. According to CMS records, this place averaged 4.1 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This was actually above the national average. Keep in mind, however, that when we compute our nursing grades, we apply more weight to hours performed by nurses with a higher level of skill. Finally, we turn to some quality-focused statistics in rounding out our nursing grades. Specifically, we look at the percent of patients who sustained pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these statistics as good indicators of the quality of nursing care, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
