Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

In addition to being a great overall grade, this facility also received A+ health inspections in recent years. Its inspections were virtually flawless. Our inspection ratings account for a host of factors included in a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher grades in this area typically have very few of these severe deficiencies. This nursing home received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This means that CMS didn't deem any of these deficiencies to be an immediate risk to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This nursing home also was given a very strong long-term care score. In fact, this is this facility's second most impressive category grade. In that category, we awarded this facility a score of A-. Nursing homes that receive this kind of grade in long-term care typically provide consistent 24/7 care to ensure residents are well cared for. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia tragically can be a deadly condition for nursing home patients so we prefer when a facility does not take any chances. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

Adding to its strong resume, this facility also received an excellent nursing score, with a grade of A-. We looked at the qualifications of nurses working for the facility, as well as the quantity of hours those nurses worked with residents, in calculating our rating in this category. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can typically be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

Switching gears to the last area, this facility was given an acceptable short-term care score. While this isn't as good as many of its other category grades, this is truly not the end of the world. Short-term care ratings are vital for patients requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates additional highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a broad scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final measure we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents that who were able to eventually return home from the facility. We found that just 4.4 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
