Facility Inspections
While we were not high on this facility overall, we awarded it a grade of B+ for our inspections rating. This grade is far more impressive than the facility's overall score. Our inspection ratings account for several factors included in a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. You generally want to avoid nursing homes with too many deficiencies flagged. This place was assessed 7 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This indicates that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies to cause an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
We awarded this facility a respectable grade in the area of nursing as well, with a grade of C. Nursing scores are tied to levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is a relatively low total compared with most nursing homes. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures. Although this facility got docked a bit for nursing hours per resident, it actually excelled in some of these quality-based measures. With fewer than five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it did very well in this area. This is typically an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as by employing a protocol of turning a patient even once per day.

Short-term Care Quality
Turning to the category of short-term care, this facility received just a D in that category. In our short-term care assessment, we attempt to create a fair measure for rehabilitation services. In this process, we look at a facility's offerings of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Lastly, we considered the number of patients that ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we analyzed is long-term care, in which this facility was given a very poor grade in this category also. Unfortunately, we gave it a lowly F in this category, which is obviously somewhat alarming. For long-term care residents, the facility's primary goal is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is higher than the majority of nursing homes. To our surprise, this nursing home was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
