Facility Inspections
This facility received a strong overall score as described above, but we especially want to emphasize its excellent inspections in recent years. We gave them an impressive grade of A+ in this area. Arguably the most significant factor we look at in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places with higher scores in this category most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Among the reasons we rated this nursing home so favorably is that it received a favorable long-term care score. In fact, long-term care turned out to be its second highest category score. In that area, we awarded this nursing home a score of A. If you are looking for anything other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care scores. This facility's vaccination statistics weren't as strong as its nursing hours data. This facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to just 71.27371 percent of its residents. We'd love to see some improvement in this area in the future. The last datapoint we looked at was the nursing home's hospitalization rate. We found that this facility had 2.08 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home's next best category was nursing. We awarded it a grade of B- in this category. While this wasn't quite as good as some of its other category grades, this isn't a bad score either. Nursing grades are tied to nurse staffing levels. According to CMS records, this place averaged 3.9 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. Keep in mind that when we compute our nursing grades, we add more weight to hours performed by nurses with a higher level of skill. Lastly, our nursing grades also factor in some quality-focused statistics. Specifically, we look at the percent of residents who sustained pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these metrics as good indicators of the quality of nursing care, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home's worst category is short-term care, which is the last area we assessed. For this category, we gave this nursing home a grade of D. In the category of short-term care, we seek to evaluate indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Unfortunately, we discovered that this nursing home offers less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most facilities. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that just 20.9 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
