Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This nursing home's best category grade came in the area of long-term care. In that category, we awarded this facility a B+. It outpaced most facilities in this area. When facilities receive a score in this range in this category it generally means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to reside on a permanent basis. After looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is more than the vast majority of nursing homes. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This facility also was awarded an impressive short-term care score. In fact, we gave them a grade of B in that category, which happens to be one of our more favorable scores. Short-term care scores are based on the nursing home's quantity of skilled nursing services. This includes a broad spectrum of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. It does not look like this nursing home submitted data regarding its registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. Lastly, we considered the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.5 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Facility Inspections

Grade: C

This nursing home's inspection grade appears to be one of its best features. The facility received a grade of C in this category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating our inspection grades. One key factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these end up being relatively minor. This facility had 5 deficiencies on its government inspection report, but we were relieved to find that none were in categories G through L. This means it dodged the more significant categories of deficiencies. Unfortunately, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received significant government fines in recent years.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

The final category we graded is nursing, which ended up being this nursing home's worst area. Unfortunately, we gave it an F for this area, which is obviously very disappointing. In computing a nursing home's nursing grade, we look at the amount of time nurses spend with patients as well as the levels of training of those nurses. This facility provided just 0.2 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. To go along with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this facility also didn't perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing grades. We looked at the percent of residents sustaining major falls and pressure ulcers. This facility had more falls and pressure ulcers than the average nursing home. This could be a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores and falls are preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, these scores pulled down this nursing home's nursing rating significantly.
