Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

Even though we graded this nursing home incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable short-term care rating this year. We gave it a B- in that area, which was the closest thing to a bright spot we can find for this place. Our short-term care ratings are meaningful for patients in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally utilizes more highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes a vast range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other types of therapy. In this facility's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than the average facility. The hope is that this does not adversely impact the quality of care. Lastly, we assessed the number of residents who who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. We found that 5.5 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was well below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

This facility really excelled in the category of nursing, where it received an D. Our nursing rating is mostly tied to a nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing scores. This place fared well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these statistics to be measures of the quality of nursing care.

Facility Inspections

Grade: F

This nursing home received a lowly F for its inspection grade. For places with bad inspection scores, you should scrutinize any severe deficiencies found on their recent inspection reports. This facility was hit with 5 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only favorable thing we found is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that suggest they posed a threat to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We would not recommend this facility under any circumstance.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The last category we rated was long-term care, in which this facility was given a very poor grade here as well. Sadly, it received a lowly F in this category, which is definitely a major disappointment. In a long-term care setting, the primary objective is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. After assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 95.1654 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is better than the majority of nursing homes. Surprisingly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home has fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. Sadly, a few of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
