Facility Inspections
Although we gave this nursing home a poor overall grade, we awarded it a B+ for our inspections rating. This was the result of the facility receiving a decent government inspection report this year. Inspection ratings are tied to datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important item to look for on these inspections. Most importantly, you should avoid facilities with severe deficiencies associated with risks to resident well being. While this facility had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G through L. This tells you the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this nursing home so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing rating. Nursing proved to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this nursing home an D. We weighed the licensure of nurses at the facility, as well as the quantity of hours those nurses spent with patients, in computing our grade in this category. This facility provided only 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing scores. This facility performed well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these statistics to be good measures of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality
This facility ended up receiving a a very poor score in our long-term care category. It was given a lowly F in this area. Nursing homes that receive this kind of grade in this category likely don't provide the kind of consistent around the clock care that some other facilities provide. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 92.32737 percent of its residents, which is a few points less than we were hoping for. To our surprise, this facility was actually decent at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This was its best feature in this category.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we assessed was short-term care, where this nursing home was given a bottom of the barrel score here as well. We gave it a lowly F in this area, which is obviously very concerning. Short-term care scores are based on the facility's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This includes a wide range of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, in addition to other forms of therapy. Given its score in this category, we weren't surprised to learn that this facility was well below average in terms of its number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its residents based on the data we assessed. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This was not a strength for this facility. We found that just 3.1 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most nursing homes, around half of their residents are able to return home so this is well below average.
