Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

The main reason this ended up being a decent nursing home is that it received an elite inspection score. Its inspection grade was far better than its overall score. In our inspections category, we gave it an A+. Our inspection scores weigh a host of factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher scores in this category usually have few of these severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Another one of this nursing home's higher category scores came in the category of long-term care. In that category, we awarded this facility a B. It actually fared better than most nursing homes in this area. Facilities that do well in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 99.23077 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is much higher than the average nursing home. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

This nursing home was given its next best category grade in the area of short-term care. We gave this nursing home a C in this category, which is a respectable grade. Short-term care ratings are vital for prospective residents needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually utilizes higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes a vast range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that this nursing home submitted information on registered nurse or physical therapist staffing. The final datapoint we considered in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is actually below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

The last category we looked at was nursing. It received a lowly F in this area, which is a bottom of the barrel grade. This is certainly a major disappointment. Our nursing grade looks at the facility's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of training of the nurses as well as the amount of time spent with residents. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing ratings. This nursing home performed well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
