Facility Inspections
On top of receiving a great overall score, this facility also received an A+ inspection score. This grade is based on its recent inspection reports. An A+ in this area is one of the best complements we can pay to a nursing home. Inspection scores weigh a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher grades in this category tend to have very few severe deficiencies. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
We also want to emphasize the fact that this nursing home was awarded an impressive score of A in our long-term care category. In a long-term care environment, the primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 91.39785 percent of its patients. This is somewhat less than we anticipated but still a reasonably acceptable figure. Lastly, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this nursing home had 3.81 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Although this admittedly wasn't as impressive as most of its other scores in this area, this figure may be skewed for some nursing homes due to some of the medical complexity of residents.
Nurse Quality
Another strong feature for this facility is that it received an impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of B+. The nursing category includes many factors, many of which are associated with quantities of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides high levels of nursing care, with an average of 4 hours per resident on a daily basis. This is more nursing care than most nursing homes provide. Finally, this facility also performed well in several of the quality-based metrics we assessed. In terms of the percentage of its residents sustaining falls leading to major injury, this facility performed better than the national average.
Short-term Care Quality
The next area we scored is short-term care, where this facility was given a grade of B. Believe it or not, this was this facility's weakest area. A nursing home could be doing a lot worse when it's poorest grade still rates higher than most other facilities. Our short-term care scores are meaningful for prospective residents seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires more skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes a vast spectrum of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. The last metric we considered in this area is the percentage of residents that eventually returned home from the facility. It fared respectably with 48 percent of its patients returning home.
