Facility Inspections
In addition to earning a strong overall score, this facility also earned excellent government inspections recently. We gave it one of our best scores in that area, with an A. These inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility also received a very strong short-term care score. This actually ended up being its second most impressive category grade. In that category, we awarded this facility a score of A. Our short-term care scores are critical for residents in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally utilizes more highly-skilled nursing services. This means a broad range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. However, according to the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the number of patients that ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 5.8 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.

Nurse Quality
Adding to its impressive resume, this nursing home also excelled in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category. The nursing grade weighs a number of factors. The most heavily weighted one is the amount of time nurses spend with patients. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility Connecticut in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as having a policy of moving patients even once per day.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we graded was long-term care. This facility received a better than average long-term care score in our assessment, with a grade of B-. Although this wasn't quite as dominant as many of its other scores, this is still a respectable grade in that area. For long-term care residents, the facility's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. Once we finished looking at the volume of nursing care, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination statistics. Frankly, we were a bit concerned this nursing home vaccinated only 80.68966 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Nevertheless, this place keeps its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
