Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

In addition to performing well in its overall grade, this facility performed at an even higher level in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A+. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining our inspection grades. One key factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be quite minor. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This nursing home is also strong in the category of short-term care, where it was given a grade of B. It outperformed most facilities in this category. In the area of short-term care, we seek to assess measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We look at a nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this facility submitted registered nurse or physical therapist staffing data. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients that returned home from this nursing home. We found that 6.2 percent of this nursing home's residents were able to return home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Turning to an additional strength for this facility, we awarded them one of our higher scores in our long-term care category as well, with a B. Facilities that receive this type of score in long-term care typically provide consistent 24/7 care to make sure residents are kept in good health. After looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 97.916664 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents healthy. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

The last category we scored was nursing. We awarded this facility a grade of D in our nursing category, rendering this its weakest grade. We scrutinized the levels of nurses at the nursing home, in addition to the number of hours those nurses were with residents, in computing our score in this area. This nursing home averaged a meager 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is an alarmingly low total. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This place fared well in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
