Facility Inspections
We want to point out that this facility outperformed its overall score in the category of inspections. In fact, it received an excellent inspection report this year. As a result, we gave it one of our best grades in that category with an A+. Our inspection scores account for several factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher scores in this area generally have very few of these severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Based on this, we had a generally positive view of this nursing home's recent inspections.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home's next most favorable area was short-term care. We gave it a C in this area. This is basically a slightly below average grade in this category. Short-term care grades are based on a nursing home's quantity of skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a wide range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. We found that this facility was below average in the two key staffing areas we assessed. The facility offered fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. The final metric we considered in this category is the number of patients that were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that just 4.9 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. This figure was below the national average.

Long-term Care Quality
The third area we assessed was long-term care. In that area, we awarded this nursing home a C. In the area of long-term care, we focus on the quantity of care offered by a nursing home, as opposed to more healthcare-oriented services. After looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 92.15686 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which happens to be a bit lower than we were hoping for but still a reasonably acceptable figure. On a more positive note, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Nurse Quality
The final category we looked at was nursing, which proved to be this nursing home's least impressive category. Unfortunately, we gave it an F for this category, which is certainly concerning. Our nursing grade is primarily associated with the facility's nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. On top of ranking below average in nursing hours per resident, this facility also had poor scores in the quality-based metrics we looked at in determining our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of patients experiencing major falls and pressure ulcers. This facility was at roughly 150 percent of the national average in both of these metrics. This is a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores and falls are preventable with better nursing care. These metrics pulled down this nursing home's nursing rating significantly.
