Facility Inspections

Grade: A

Although we didn't rate this facility favorably overall, we actually gave it an excellent score in the category of inspections, where it earned an A. Arguably the most important factor we look at in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. It is typically best to avoid nursing homes that had a long list of severe deficiencies. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

We also awarded this nursing home a decent grade in the area of long-term care, where it received a grade of C. In computing our long-term care ratings, we size up the personal care received by a facility's residents. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination statistics. We were pleased to learn that this facility vaccinated 97.01492 percent of its patients for pneumonia. This place also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

This facility ended up receiving rock bottom score in our nursing category. It received an F in this category. Our nursing score assesses many components, however, the most important one is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing ratings. This nursing home performed well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Turning to our fourth area, this nursing home didn't fare well here either. With a bottom of the barrel grade of F in short-term care, this is really as bad as it gets. Short-term care scores are based on the facility's quantity of skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a broad scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, in addition to other types of therapy. Considering its score in this area, we weren't surprised to learn that this facility is well below average in terms of its number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the metrics we looked at. Honestly, this was about what we expected here. The last item we considered in this area is the percentage of patients who ultimately returned home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 3.7 percent of its patients returning home.
