Facility Inspections

Grade: A

While this nursing home's overall grade was decent, it really excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category, which is one of our best scores. Our inspection ratings are based on items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that excel in this category have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Fortunately, although this nursing home had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G through L. This means CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility also performed favorably in the category of short-term care, with an elite score of A- in this category. Our short-term care scores are probably more meaningful for individuals requiring rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation typically requires additional highly-skilled nursing. This means not just nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, we were not able to locate information on registered nurse or physical therapy staffing for this nursing home. The final measure we looked at in this category is the number of patients who who were able to eventually return home from the facility. We found that 6.7 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

One of this facility's better category grades was in the area of nursing care. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of C. We weighed the skill-level of nurses at the nursing home, as well as the number of hours the nurses spent with patients, in computing our grade in this area. This nursing home averages just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Lastly, we also looked at several nursing quality measures. Although this facility got dinged a bit for nursing hours per resident, it actually excelled in a few of these quality-based measures. With less than five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it did very well in this statistic. This is often an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as employing a policy of turning a patient at least once a day.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

This nursing home's worst area was long-term care, which is the final category we scored. Sadly, it received an abysmal F for this area. In spite of several respectable scores in other categories, this grade is nevertheless of a concern so we would like to to make a note of it. For long-term care residents, the facility's primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. One of the factors we considered on top of nurse's aid hours is vaccinations. Thankfully, this facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to 97.9661 percent of its residents. To our surprise, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility had less hospitalizations than most nursing homes. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
