We gave this facility a solid grade in our long-term care rating, where it earned a B+. For residents in need of a permanent place to live as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care grades are an important measure. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 47.10611 percent of its patients, which is somewhat below what we anticipated. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we had hoped, we were pleased to find facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

This facility's second best category grade came in the area of government inspections. In that category, we gave this nursing home a B. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Facilities with higher grades in this category most likely avoided the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Based on this, we had positive view of this facility's inspections.

The next highest category we gave this facility in any category came in the category of short-term care, where we gave it a C. Our short-term care grades are arguably more important for people requiring a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually utilizes additional highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes not merely nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Unfortunately, this nursing home was below average in terms of its level of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the measures we assessed. The critical question is whether this also impacted quality of care. The final datapoint we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients who ultimately returned home from the facility. We found that just 5.7 percent of this facility's residents returned home. Unfortunately, this was below average.

This facility's least impressive area was nursing, which is the last category we analyzed. It received an F for this category. Even with several respectable grades in other categories, this score is nevertheless disappointing so we would like to to draw your attention to it. We looked at the skill-level of nurses working for the nursing home, as well as the number of hours those nurses spent with patients, in calculating our grade in this area. This facility provided a meager 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is not a very impressive figure. To pair with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this nursing home also did not perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing ratings. We looked at the percentage of patients experiencing major falls and pressure ulcers. This place had more falls and pressure ulcers than the average nursing home. This may be a bad sign when you consider that many falls and bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. These metrics hurt this nursing home's nursing grade significantly.
