Registered Staff Hours
In addition to being a respectable facility overall, this place really excelled in the area of inspections, where it received a grade of A+. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Inspection grades account for a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better scores in this area usually have very few severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility also was awarded an impressive score in our long-term care category. We gave this nursing home an above average grade of B+ in this category. Long-term care grades of this caliber generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 50.166115 percent of its residents. This is slightly less than we anticipated. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
This facility wound up receiving a bottom of the barrel score in our short-term care area. It received an F in this area. Our short-term care grades are probably more meaningful for individuals needing rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation generally utilizes additional highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes not merely nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. With its grade in this area, we were not surprised to learn that this facility was well below average in terms of the number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its patients based on the metrics we looked at. Frankly, this was what we expected to find. The final item we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents that returned home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 5.1 percent of its residents returning home. This was well below average.
The next category we analyzed is nursing. Unfortunately, we gave it an abysmal F for this area, which is a very poor grade. This is certainly a significant disappointment. The nursing category consists of a handful of factors, most of which are associated with levels of nurse staffing. With only 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day, this facility's nurse staffing levels were far below the national average. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing grades. This place performed well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these statistics to be good measures of the quality of nursing care.
