Facility Inspections
Although we didn't grade this facility favorably overall, we did give it an excellent score in the area of inspections, where it received an A. These inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even with this deficiency, this place still had a relatively favorable inspection report.
Long-term Care Quality
We awarded this nursing home just a D for our long-term care rating and that actually turned out to be its next highest score. Facilities that receive this type of score in long-term care likely don't provide the kind of consistent 24/7 care that some other facilities offer. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination record. Frankly, we were a bit worried that this facility vaccinated 85.64743 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which happens to be quite a bit less than what we expected. Finally, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. We found that this place fared poorly with 3.3 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, this statistic is nearly twice the national average.
Short-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, this nursing home's third best score is short-term care. As it turns out, with a grade of D in this category, it still performed relatively badly. Short-term care ratings are based on a facility's quantity of skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a vast spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, not to mention other forms of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Lastly, we considered the number of residents who were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that it performed better in this area, with 55.7 percent of its patients returning home.
Nurse Quality
The last area we assessed was nursing, where this facility was given a rock bottom grade here also. It received an abysmal F for this area, which is definitely very concerning. Our nursing grade is based on the facility's nurse staffing levels. We weigh both the levels of training of those nurses as well as the quantity of hours spent with residents. This place provided a meager 3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is well below average. This place also had terrible marks in some of the quality-based metrics to go along with its low nursing hours. We looked at the percentage of residents suffering pressure ulcers and we were disappointed. This place was at roughly 150 percent of the national average in this statistic. This is a bad sign in light of the fact that many bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. This metric helped pull down this facility's nursing grade quite a bit.
