Facility Inspections
On top of being a strong nursing home overall, it also received A+ government inspections recently. Its inspections were virtually flawless. Inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this nursing home had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple relatively minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
This facility received a very good nursing grade this year as well. It received one of our better scores in that category with a grade of B+. Turning to our third area, this facility also received a score of B for its short-term care rating. This is an above average grade in this area. In calculating our short-term care grades, we size up a nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. This area is generally a reliable measure of the nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the number of patients that eventually returned home from this facility. We found that 4.8 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
Long-term Care Quality
The next category we scored was long-term care. We awarded this nursing home an acceptable grade in that category, with a B-. While this is not as favorable as some of this nursing home's other grades, it is still a middle of the pack score. Our long-term care grade is commonly used to gauge a nursing home's performance as a traditional nursing home, as opposed to focusing on the skilled nursing services provided by a skilled nursing facility. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Thankfully, this nursing home vaccinated 98.019806 percent of its patients, which is a very solid datapoint. This place also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
