Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

The main reason this ended up being a decent nursing home is that it earned an excellent inspection score. Its inspection grade was far superior to its overall grade. In the inspections category, we gave it an A-. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection ratings. One key factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these end up being quite minor. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Based on this, we had a generally favorable view of this nursing home's inspections.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

One of this nursing home's better category grades came in the category of long-term care. This proved to be its second most favorable category. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of B-. In a long-term care setting, the nursing home's primary objective is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination records. Candidly, we were a bit alarmed this nursing home vaccinated 79.19708 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is significantly less than what we expected. Fortunately, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Another strength of this nursing home is its favorable grade in nursing. We gave them one of our better scores in that area, with an impressive grade of D. There are a number of datapoints within this grade. Many of these factors reflect the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. This place offered a meager 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is an alarmingly low total. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing grades. This nursing home fared well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these datapoints to be indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

This facility's least impressive category was short-term care, which is the last area we looked at. In this area, we gave this nursing home a grade of D. Our short-term care grade is generally used to score a facility's performance with rehabilitation. To offer highly rated rehabilitation services, facilities generally must have higher levels of highly skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. Considering its score in this area, we were not surprised to learn that this place was well below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its residents based on the metrics we looked at. Honestly, this was about what we expected to find. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who eventually returned home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
