Medical Staff Hours Per Patient (2019)
Nurse Quality
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for its nursing grade. Our nursing score assesses quite a few subcategories, many of which are tied to nursing hours. This place provided 5.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis, which is among the higher totals in the country. A significant percentage of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the most highly skilled levels of nurses. We are really impressed by these statistics. On top of offering impressive levels of care, this facility also performed well in several of the quality-based metrics we looked at. In terms of the percentage of its residents suffering falls resulting in major injury, this facility performed as well as any facility the state.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility also received an A+ for its short-term care score. In determining our short-term care grades, we assess the nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. This rating is typically a meaningful measure of the nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. This place excelled in two key staffing areas we assessed. It provided about 50% more care from physical therapists and registered nurses than the typical facility. The last item we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that this nursing home was better than average with 53 percent of its patients able to return home.
Facility Inspections
This facility also received a nearly flawless inspection report. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A+. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating these inspection scores. One of those factors is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are quite minor. While this place had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.
Long-term Care Quality
Moving on to the last category, this facility received an acceptable long-term care score. Even though this was not nearly as strong as many of its other category grades, this is still not a major area of concern. Long-term care ratings are based on a nursing home's quantity of care. This includes a broad range of personal care services, ranging from help with activities of daily living to routine medical services. After assessing the very respectable amount of nursing hours and other staffing provided by this facility, we next considered the facility's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which appears to be higher than the average nursing home. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
