Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a grade of B- for our nursing rating. The nursing grade weighs a number of subcategories. The most heavily weighted factor is the quantity of hours nurses spent with patients. This facility provided just 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics. While this nursing home got docked a bit for nursing hours, it actually excelled in some of these quality-based measures. With less than five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it fared remarkably well in this metric. This is typically an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as having a system of turning a patient even once per day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility also didn't grade out poorly in the category of short-term care. In fact, we awarded it a grade of B- for that area, which turned out to be another one of its better grades. Our short-term care grade is typically employed to score a facility's rehabilitation services. In order to provide good rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to offer higher levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. Unfortunately, we found that this place provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. The more important thing is determining what effect this had on quality of care. The last statistic we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents that were able to return home from the facility. We found that just 5.6 percent of this facility's patients returned home. Unfortunately, this was below the national average.

Facility Inspections

Grade: F

Among this facility's alarming category grades was an F for its inspection grade. More often than not, this means we found some red flags on the facility's inspection reports. When a facility has this poor of an inspection score, you should look for severe deficiencies on its inspection report. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to patient safety. This particular nursing home had one category G through L deficiency, which rank among the more severe categories of deficiencies. This generally indicates that the deficiencies identified by inspectors had the potential to cause actual harm to patients. Another area of concern is that CMS flagged this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. This is not what you want to see. We advise you to direct your search elsewhere.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The next area we graded is long-term care. This nursing home received an abysmal grade of F in this area. Facilities that do not fare well in long-term care typically aren't as well-staffed and are lagging in some of the areas of routine healthcare services we assessed. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. We found that this facility gave the vaccine to only 59.620598 percent of its residents, which is somewhat concerning. To our surprise, this nursing home was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has less hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This was its best feature in this category.
