Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

While we gave this nursing home a terrible overall score, we awarded it a B- for short-term care. Our short-term care grade is generally employed to assess a facility's rehabilitation services. In order to provide good rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must feature higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly trained professionals. We were surprised to find that this nursing home was below average in the two key staffing areas we assessed. It offered fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The final metric we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients that ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home excelled in the area of nursing, where it received an B-. Few nursing homes fared better in this area. Our nursing score is largely associated with a facility's nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is a much lower figure than we were hoping for. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based measures, such as preventing major falls. Despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours, this nursing home actually performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is often a good indicator that a nursing home has sufficient quality controls in place. Some falls could be avoided if a nursing home provides enough nurses to assist its residents.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The next category we analyzed was long-term care. This nursing home's received a low-end long-term care score where it received an F. Long-term care ratings in this range generally are a bad sign for the quantity and quality of care provided by nurses and aids, as well as the levels of routine medical care available. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to a relatively low 88.17204 percent of its residents, which is well below average. Surprisingly, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.04 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility had less hospitalizations than most nursing homes. This was its best feature in this category.

Facility Inspections

Grade: F

Moving on our last category of inspections, this nursing home received an abysmal grade. We weight this grade more heavily than our other categories. You should pay special attention to any deficiencies on a nursing home's inspection reports when it receives this bad of an inspection rating. We would pay close attention to the severity of those deficiencies. This facility had a category G through L deficiency, which are among the more severe deficiencies. This generally indicates that the deficiencies identified by inspectors had potential to cause actual harm to residents. Lastly, we need to point out that this facility received significant government fines of more than $100,000. This often signifies that a facility's bad track record has been an issue for multiple years.
