Facility Inspections
While this facility's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it performed well in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of B+ for that area, which is one of our better scores. Inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This place received 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe. This means that the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies to be an imminent risk to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to the category of long-term care, this nursing home received a grade of just D in that area. Sadly, this ended up being one of its better grades. Nursing homes that do not fare well in long-term care often don't provide as much nursing care and also may be struggling in a few of the areas of routine healthcare services we looked at. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination statistics. Candidly, we were a bit bothered by the fact that this nursing home vaccinated 76.63551 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which happens to be significantly lower than what we were hoping for. We were stunned with the facility's hospitalization rate. We found that this nursing home had 6.51 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is more than double the national average. This is definitely an alarming statistic.
Short-term Care Quality
Another concern was the F this facility was given in the category of short-term care. Our short-term care scores are based on a nursing home's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This includes a broad spectrum of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we considered the number of residents who who were able to eventually return home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 40.8 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.
Nurse Quality
Turning to the next category, this facility really didn't fare very well here either. Due to an abysmal grade of F in nursing, this is really as as uninspiring as it gets. The nursing rating weighs many components, however, the paramount consideration is the level of nurse hours spent with patients. This particular place offered a meager 2.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This figure is quite a bit below average. In addition to receiving below average scores for nursing hours, this place was a bit less impressive in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing ratings. We looked at the percent of patients sustaining pressure ulcers and found that this facility was at approximately 1.5 times the national average in this statistic. This is a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, this statistic pulled down this nursing home's nursing rating significantly.
