To complement its elite performance in other areas, we gave this facility a grade of A for its long-term care score. For long-term care residents, the nursing home's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. This place really excelled in this category.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

The third area we looked at was short-term care. Adding to its first-rate profile, this nursing home also performed well in that area. In fact, we gave it a of A in that area. With our short-term care rating, we seek to create a sound barometer for rehabilitation services. In this process, we look at a nursing home's level of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. This facility excelled at the highest level in the two key staffing areas we looked at. It offered about 50% more care from physical therapists and registered nurses than the average nursing home. This is an excellent sign. The last item we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients who who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

In the final category we graded, this nursing home received a very favorable grade of A in our nursing category. With this grade, the nursing home rounded out a straight A report card. When computing a nursing home's nursing score, we consider the number of hours nurses are seeing residents as well as the levels of training of those nurses. This nursing home provided 5.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which is among the highest totals in the country. A significant portion of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the most skilled levels of nurses. We were very impressed by both of these figures. In addition to offering high levels of nursing care, this place also excelled in the quality measures we looked at. It performed as well as any facility in the nation in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
