In addition to being a first rate nursing home overall, this nursing home performed well in the area of inspections, where it earned an A+. Very few places performed as well in this category. Inspection scores are based on several pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that receive favorable grades in this category have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. We were not able to track down deficiency counts for this nursing home. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

In addition, this facility received high marks in the category of short-term care. As a result, it was given one of our best grades in that area with a score of A+. Short-term care grades are generally used to assess a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. In order to have highly graded rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must feature better levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other licensed professionals. Remarkably, this nursing home provides about 50% more services from physical therapists and registered nurses than most nursing homes we looked at. This is a very favorable sign. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of facilities with 65.1 percent of its patients returning home.

The third area we analyzed is long-term care. Contributing to its strong resume, this facility also performed well in that category. In fact, it received a grade of of A for the area. For long-term care residents, the facility's primary objective is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Unfortunately, we were not able to track down information on vaccination rates. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Moving on to the last area, this nursing home also excelled in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it an A in that category. This completed a straight A report card. In computing our nursing grades, we assess both staffing levels and the levels of licensure of those nurses. This nursing home provides an incredible 5.5 hours of nursing care per patient each day. Very few nursing homes provide this quantity of nursing care to their patients. Out of this total, many of the hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the most highly trained levels of nurses. On top of offering high levels of care, this place also excelled in the quality measures we assessed. It performed as well as any nursing home in the nation in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
