Facility Inspections

Grade: A

In addition to earning a strong overall score, this facility also received excellent government inspections recently. We gave it one of our highest scores in that category, with an A. Arguably the most important factor we look at in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher scores in this category typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. Fortunately, although this nursing home had a few minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This tells you CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. We should note that deficiency-free inspections are rare in this industry.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility also excelled in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Our nursing score is primarily tied to the nursing home's nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can generally be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This nursing home also fared very well in the category of short-term care, where we awarded it a score of A-. Few facilities received a better grade in this category. With our short-term care score, we seek to create a meaningful barometer for rehabilitation. In this process, we analyze the facility's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final datapoint we considered in this category is the percentage of patients that eventually returned home from the facility. We found that 5.7 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

In the last category, this nursing home also was awarded a first-rate long-term care rating, with a grade of B+. This wrapped up a very favorable profile. Nursing homes that receive this kind of grade in this category typically provide consistent around the clock care to ensure residents are kept in good health. Once we looked at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 91.2 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which happens to be a bit lower than we were hoping for but still a decent percentage. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
