Registered Staff Hours
This nursing home earned a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to emphasize its excellent inspection reports in recent years. We gave them an A in this category. Arguably the most important factor we look at in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with better grades in this area typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. While this place had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also fared well in the area of long-term care. For this reason, we gave it a score of A- in that area, which is one of our best scores. For patients seeking a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care grades are a key measure. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 66.06335 percent of its residents. This is a few points below what we anticipated but still a reasonably acceptable figure. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we had hoped, at least this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

One of this facility's better category grades was in the area of nursing care. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of C. Our nursing score is based on the facility's nurse staffing levels. We factor in both the levels of licensure of the nurses and the quantity of hours spent with patients. This nursing home averages just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Lastly, nursing grades also consider quality-based measures, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours per resident, this facility performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is usually a good indicator that a facility has quality controls in place. Some falls could be avoided if a facility supplies enough nurses aids to assist its residents.
Short-term Care Quality
Moving on to the final area, this facility really didn't perform very well. With a very poor grade of F in short-term care, this was this facility's worst category. Our short-term care ratings are presumably more important for individuals needing rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation usually requires higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means not only nursing services, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, this nursing home was below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the measures we assessed. Finally, we assessed the percentage of residents that ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 3.9 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
