Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

We also wanted to point out that this facility earned near flawless health inspections recently. We gave them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining our inspection ratings. One critical factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being relatively minor. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

On the list of its many elite scores, this facility was given first-rate long-term care grade. In fact, we gave it a grade of A in this area. Nursing homes that excel in this category tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to residents. One of the statistics we considered after nursing hours was vaccines. This facility administered the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccination is a proven method to minimize unnecessary deaths for the nursing home population. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Turning our next category, this facility received first-rate short-term care score. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- in this area. In computing our short-term care scores, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our objective is to devise a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final item we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that 5.7 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

In the final category we scored, this nursing home received a very favorable grade of A- in our nursing category. With this score, the facility topped off a straight A report card. The nursing grade consists of many data points, most of which are tied to quantities of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as having a policy of turning residents more often.
