In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home received an A+ in the area of short-term care. Our short-term care grades are thought to be most critical for residents requiring rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation generally utilizes higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes not merely nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other types of therapy. This nursing home excelled in the two key staffing areas we assessed. In fact, it provided about 50% more care from registered nurses and physical therapists than a typical nursing home. This is definitely a very favorable sign. The last datapoint we looked at in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that it fared as well as just about any facility in Wisconsin in this area with 70.8 percent of its patients returning home. Unfortunately, at most facilities, fewer than half of their short-stay residents are able to return home.

This nursing home also received a nearly flawless inspection. As a result, it earned one of our highest scores in that area with a score of A+. This is one of the few places to receive multiple A+'s. Arguably the most critical factor we consider in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Places with better scores in this area typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. Although this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

This facility is also strong in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of B+. It outperformed most nursing homes in this category. We assessed the levels of nurses at the facility, in addition to the quantity of time those nurses spent with residents, in determining our rating in this area. This place provides an impressive 3.9 hours of nursing care per patient daily. Out of this total, nearly one quarter of the hours were provided by registered nurses, which is among the most highly skilled levels of nurses. Lastly, this facility also performed well in several of the quality measures we looked at. In terms of the percentage of its residents sustaining falls which lead to major injury, this place performed as well as any nursing home in the country.

The last area we scored was long-term care, where this facility received a grade of B+. This wrapped up an elite profile. Few nursing homes earned a B+ or higher in in each area we assessed. Long-term care ratings in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. After assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 99.22481 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is significantly higher than most nursing homes. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.28 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes.
