Registered Staff Hours
Although this place's overall grade was terrible, it actually fared well in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B for that area, which is one of our better scores. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection grades. One critical factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be relatively minor. While this facility had some deficiencies on its report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also didn't perform terribly in the area of long-term care. Indeed, we gave it a C for that area, which happens to be another one of its more respectable scores. Our long-term care grade assesses a facility's personal care rather than the skilled therapy and medical services that are critical to a skilled nursing facility. One of the criteria we considered after nursing hours is vaccinations. Thankfully, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 97.81421 percent of its residents. Lastly, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Does this page answer your questions about Cavalier Healthcare of England?
We were surprised to find that this facility also excelled in the category of nursing. We awarded it an impressive grade of D for that category, which is one of our best scores. There are a host of subcategories within this grade. Most of these factors relate to levels of nurse staffing. With just 0.2 hours of nursing care per resident per day, this nursing home's nurse staffing levels were well below average. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing scores. This facility performed well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we rated was short-term care. Sadly, it received an abysmal F for this category, which is a rock bottom grade. In crafting our short-term care ratings, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our goal is to create a measure for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. With its score in this area, we were not stunned to learn that this place was well below average in terms of the quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its residents based on the measures we assessed. Lastly, we considered the number of patients who returned home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 3.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
