Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

We would like to point out that this nursing home's inspection rating exceeded its overall grade. This facility earned a grade of B+ in this area, which is one of our better grades. Arguably the most significant factor we consider in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Places with better scores in this area most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. While this facility had some deficiencies on its report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few relatively minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing grade. In that area, we gave this nursing home an B. When calculating our nursing ratings, we look at both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the skill levels of the nurses. This particular nursing home provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

We also awarded this facility an impressive score in long-term care. This facility earned a B in this category, which is one of our more favorable grades. In a long-term care environment, the primary objective is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 84.50704 percent of its residents. This is slightly lower than we were hoping for. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we hoped for, at least this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Moving on to our fourth category, we awarded this facility a grade of D for short-term care. This was the facility's least impressive category rating. Sadly, this category hurt the nursing home's overall grade a bit. Our short-term care grades are meaningful for people needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally utilizes more skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means a wide range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other types of therapy. We found that this facility was subpar in the two key staffing areas we looked at. The facility supplied fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most other facilities. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents that eventually returned home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.1 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.
