This nursing home received a nursing score which is stronger than its overall grade. We awarded this nursing home an above average grade of B+ in this area. Nursing scores are primarily tied to a facility's nurse staffing. This facility provided 3.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these metrics as predictive indicators of the quality of nursing care provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.

In addition, we also wanted to draw your attention to the fact that this facility was awarded positive short-term care marks this year. We awarded them one of our better scores in this area, with a grade of B. This turned out to be the facility's second highest score. Our short-term care grade is typically used to judge a nursing home's rehabilitation services. To offer highly rated rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to offer higher levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other types of therapists. One of this nursing home's strengths is registered nurse hours. We found that it offers more care from registered nurses to its residents than most facilities. Lastly, we considered the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. This place outperformed most facilities in the country with 53.1 percent of its patients returning home.

This nursing home received a solid inspection report this year as well, with few dings from the applicable government inspectors. As a result, it received one of our better grades in that category with a score of B-. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating these inspection scores. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some end up being relatively insignificant. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A couple of minor deficiencies shouldn't lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.

Historical

This facility's least impressive area was long-term care, which is the last category we scored. It received a lowly F in this area. Despite multiple solid grades in other categories, this score is still concerning so we felt obligated to point it out. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in this category it generally means the facility did not perform well in our measures relating to patient care. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. We were a bit worried that this nursing home provided the vaccine to only 88.547485 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this facility was actually decent at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.83 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This is its best feature in this category.
