Facility Inspections
On top of being a strong nursing home overall, it also earned A+ government inspections recently. Its inspections were nearly perfect. Arguably the most important factor we consider in computing our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher grades in this category most likely dodged the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. It doesn't appear that we have deficiency data for this nursing home. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
To add to its dominant performance in other areas, we awarded this nursing home a score of A- for its long-term care score. In a long-term care environment, the primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. On the whole this looks like a solid option for long-term care.
Nurse Quality
This facility received a very good nursing grade this year as well. It received one of our better scores in that category with a grade of B+. There are a number of datapoints included in this category. Most of the datapoints are tied to the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. This facility provides an incredible 8.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. Out of this total, many of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the more highly trained levels of nurses. In addition to offering high levels of care, this facility also excelled in the quality-based metrics we assessed. It performed as well as any facility in the nation in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we rated is short-term care, where this nursing home was given a grade of B. Even though this wound up being its least impressive category rating, this is still a strong score. Short-term care grades are typically employed to gauge a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. To provide highly graded rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to feature higher levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other types of therapists. One reason for this facility's favorable score in this area is that it provides more care from registered nurses to its residents than the average facility. The last datapoint we assessed in this area is the number of residents that ultimately returned home from the facility. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home rather than remaining at the nursing home permanently.
