Facility Inspections
The main reason this facility received a decent overall grade is its impeccable inspections in recent years. We gave it one of our higher grades in that category, with an A-. This is a notably better grade than the place's overall score, which was decent but certainly not elite. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection scores. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these are quite insignificant. While this place had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. We should point out that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in the industry.
Nurse Quality
Turning to another strength for this facility, it also received an elite nursing grade. In fact, we gave this facility a grade of A-. Nursing grades are primarily based on the nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home provides an impressive 4 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. Out of this total, nearly one quarter of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which is among the most highly skilled levels of nurses. Lastly, this place was also above average in each of the major quality measures we assessed in this category. It performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
Short-term Care Quality
We also gave this nursing home a favorable grade in short-term care. This facility received a grade of B in this area, which turns out to be one of our better grades. Our short-term care grades are arguably most meaningful for patients requiring rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation typically requires higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes not just nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other types of therapy. This nursing home elevated its grade in this category by offering more care from registered nurses to its residents than the average facility. The last item we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents who who were able to eventually return home from the facility. We found that 44.7 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility's weakest category is long-term care, which is the last category we analyzed. In this area, we gave this facility a grade of just D. When nursing homes receive this kind of score in long-term care it is a bad sign for patient care and it may indicate that the facility is not as well-staffed. Once we looked at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 91.818184 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is slightly lower than we expected but still a respectable percentage. Unfortunately, this nursing home's hospitalization rate was also a cause for concern. We found that this facility had 2.73 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an alarming rate.
