Registered Staff Hours
Nurse Quality
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ nursing grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. The nursing score is based on a variety of datapoints. The most important factor is the quantity of hours nurses spend with patients. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by having a protocol of turning patients more frequently.
Facility Inspections
Adding to its impressive category grades, this facility also excelled in the category of inspections, where it received an A. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection grades. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite insignificant. This facility was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered severe. This tells you that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to be an immediate risk to patient safety or health. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspections are rare in the industry.

Short-term Care Quality
The third area we assessed was short-term care. Adding to its superb profile, this nursing home also performed well in that area. In fact, we awarded it a of A- for the category. With our short-term care assessment, we seek to create a valuable measure for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we assess a nursing home's offerings of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
Long-term Care Quality
The next category we looked at was long-term care. We gave this nursing home one of our more favorable grades in that category, with a grade of B. Even though this is not as high as some of this facility's other grades, it is still an excellent grade. Facilities that excel in this category typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents healthy. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
