Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

In addition to receiving a great overall score, this facility also received an A+ in short-term care. In calculating our short-term care ratings, we look at a facility's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other types of therapists. This category is considered to be a meaningful measure of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final statistic we assessed in this area is the number of patients who ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that 6.5 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A

Turning to inspections, this nursing home excelled in that area, which is based on the facility's government inspections. In fact, we awarded it an A for that category. Arguably the most critical factor we consider in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Places with better grades in this area typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. Fortunately, although this place had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G through L. This tells you the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

Among its many impressive grades, this facility received an excellent nursing grade. In fact, we gave it a grade of A- in that category. Our nursing rating looks at the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We look at both the levels of training of those nurses as well as the quantity of hours spent with patients. This facility provided 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can generally be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

The fourth category we looked at was long-term care, where this nursing home received a grade of A-. This wrapped up a very favorable report card. Not many nursing homes received an A- or better in every single category. When nursing homes receive this kind of grade in this category it is typically a good sign for resident care and suggests that the place is well-staffed with nurses aids. On top of considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents, which is much higher than the average nursing home. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
