Facility Inspections
While we were not high on this facility overall, we awarded it an A for our inspections rating. This score is far more impressive than the nursing home's overall score. Our inspection grades are based on several pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key item to look for on these reports. Most importantly, you should avoid facilities with severe deficiencies associated with endangerment of patients. This nursing home received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This indicates that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies an imminent threat to resident health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility's next best category came in the area of long-term care. In that area, we gave this nursing home a C. For long-term care residents, the facility's primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. After looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is more than most nursing homes. This facility keeps its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality
This facility ended up receiving a bottom of the barrel score in our short-term care area. It received an F in this category. Short-term care ratings are critical for residents in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally utilizes additional highly-skilled nursing. This means a vast range of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this facility provides substantially less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than a typical nursing home. The last statistic we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents that eventually returned home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 0 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
Switching gears to the final category, this nursing home did not fare very well here either. Due to a bottom of the barrel grade of F in nursing, this is just about as bad as it gets. When calculating our nursing grades, we weigh both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the training levels of the nurses. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. To pair with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this nursing home also did not perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing scores. We looked at the percent of residents experiencing pressure ulcers and major falls. This nursing home had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average facility.
