Facility Inspections
To pair with its relatively modest overall score, we gave this facility an A+ for its inspection grade. This grade is far better than the facility's overall grade. Our inspection scores account for a host of factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher grades in this area generally have very few of these severe deficiencies. This facility was assessed 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be severe. This indicates that CMS did not deem any of these deficiencies to create an immediate risk to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to the category of long-term care, we gave this nursing home a grade of A- in that area. When facilities receive this kind of grade in long-term care it is usually a good sign for patient care and suggests that the facility is well-staffed with nurses aids. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 99.2665 percent of its residents, which is significantly higher than the majority of nursing homes. Finally, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. With 1.89 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility is just about middle of the pack in this area.
Nurse Quality
The next highest grade we gave this nursing home in any area came in the category of nursing, where we gave it a grade of C. Our nursing rating weighs quite a few datapoints, however, the primary one is the level of nurse hours spent with patients. Based on the CMS data, this nursing home offers 3.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based metrics, such as minimizing major falls. This nursing home performed admirably in this statistic. Avoiding serious falls is often an indicator that a facility has quality controls in place. Some falls can be avoided if a nursing home provides enough nurses aids to assist its patients.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we analyzed is short-term care, is this nursing home's weakest category. We gave this facility a grade of D in that category. This really was one of just a couple of weak links in a quality report card. With our short-term care score, we attempt to craft a sound barometer for rehabilitation. In doing so, we look at a nursing home's level of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. It looks like this nursing home was subpar in multiple staffing metrics we looked at. The facility offered fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. Finally, we looked at the number of residents that eventually returned home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 37.4 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
